Volunteering is a tangible way to help restore hope to kids in crisis. Volunteers help Hand in Hand stretch resources, improve efficiencies, and provide better care for the children and families we serve.
**We have two immediate opportunities to make a huge impact in the lives of youth who are part of our community!
Hand in Hand's Husky Club at Horizon Elementary - We are there to provide a safe place after school for local kids in the 1st-5th grade. This volunteer position is part of a team that helps with homework, serves a meal and we partner with the "Soccer for Success program" that teaches about good nutrition and being active.
Commitment is one shift per week for the school year. Must be at least 18 years of age.
3 openings - Wednesdays 3:15-4:30pm
3 openings - Thursdays 3:15-4:30pm
Safe Place children's shelter - This volunteer position is responsible for direct care to children, who are admitted to our Safe Place emergency shelter due to abuse &/or neglectful living circumstances. This person provides care and comfort to the children being served. Must be 21 with one year of direct childcare experience.
Commitment - one shift per month
Friday: 5-10pm or 10pm-8am
Saturday & Sunday: help needed for all shifts

Volunteer opportunities include:
Safe Place and Youth Worker
The volunteer child and youth worker is responsible for direct care service to children ages 0-17, who are admitted to Safe Place. This person helps provide care and comfort to the children being served.
Safe Place volunteer requirements:
- Minimum age of 21
- Attend volunteer orientation
- Must be able to pass an extensive background clearance
- Background check fee of $17 (If you have lived in Washington less than 3 years, an additional fee of $27 is required).
- Must be able to commit to a 6-10 hour shift once a month for minimum of 1 year
- Food Handlers Card
- CPR, First Aid, and Bloodborne Pathogens Certifications
- Records of current TB test, Dtap, and Flu shot.
Youth Soccer Coach & Support
We have a community soccer league that is vital to building strong relationships, accountability and and a healthy, fun environment for the area youth. We have many kids who want to play, but need more coaches and assistant coaches! You do not need coaching experience, we can train you!
Husky Club After School Program Helpers/Mentors
During the school year, we partner with Horizon Elementary and run the "Hand in Hand Husky Club" after school kids program. We need people to commit to coming Tuesday-Thursdays from 3:15-4:30pm to build relationships with the kids and be there for them to help with homework, listen, encourage and play! We also partner with the Soccer for Success Program who brings a health, nutrition and active component to the program!
Special Event Team
Each year, Hand in Hand hosts several events that require many volunteers. Picnics, Christmas Parties, and fundraisers are successful because of volunteers who get involved with the event preparation, promotions, sponsorship, food, set up/tear down, etc.
